Bone cancer is a rare disease that affects both children and adults. In 2008, approximately 2,400 new cases of primary bone cancers were diagnosed in the United States, and about 50% of these bone cancer patients died from this disease.

The tumors may start in the bone (primary cancer) or may start in another part of the body and spread to the bone (secondary cancer). There are several different types of primary bone cancer and all of them are rare.
